Permanent makeup, also known as micro pigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, can be a great way to enhance your natural beauty and save time on your daily makeup routine. However, proper care and maintenance are crucial to ensure that your permanent makeup looks its best and lasts as long as possible. Here are some dos and don’ts for skin care after permanent makeup:
Dos:
- Follow your aftercare instructions: Your technician will give you specific instructions on how to care for your skin after your permanent makeup procedure. Be sure to follow these instructions closely to minimise the risk of infection, inflammation, and other complications.
- Protect your skin from the sun: UV rays can cause fading and discolouration of your permanent makeup, so be sure to protect the area with sunscreen or a physical barrier such as a wide-brimmed hat.
- Avoid sweating and swimming: Sweating and swimming can cause irritation and fading of your permanent makeup, so avoid these activities for at least a week after your procedure.
Tip: – if you are a regular in the gym switch to for example a weights-based workout instead of CV. This will benefit your health by introducing a new challenge. Switching it up is always good.
Don’ts:
- Do not pick or scratch at the area: Picking or scratching at the treated area can cause infection, scarring, and uneven colour.
- Do not use harsh products – see tip below: Avoid using harsh or abrasive products, such as exfoliants or scrubs, on the treated area for at least a week after your procedure.
- Do not get your brow enhancement wet.
- Do not use any skincare products using acids of any sort 14 days post enhancement – see tip below.
- Do not expose your enhancement to sun beds, self-tanning or UV light.
Tip – Use a gentle cleanser and moisturising regime post treatment. Avoid using any skincare containing acids around your eye area – these will often be branded as Anti-Ageing.
